A clean and cosy, dog-friendly cottage
Bilsdale Cottage is popular with families, couples and solo travelers wanting to relax in the Yorkshire countryside. It is particularly of interest to dog owners and walkers who want to take advantage of our picturesque rural location close to the North York Moors National Park and within the Howardian Hills National Landscape. Guests are welcome to use the picnic benches, large lawn and dog exercise paddock (fenced and gated).
When you’ve had enough of exploring the nearby walks, cycling trails and local sights, the quaint market town of Helmsley is only a five-minute drive away (or a country ramble alongside the River Rye). Here you’ll find plenty of unique pubs, restaurants and cafes, plus a varied selection of independent shops. Helmsley has a castle, walled garden and the National Centre for Birds of Prey. In summer months, the heated outdoor swimming pool is always popular as is a walk along the Cleveland Way to Rievaulx Abbey.
New in Spring 2025 – Bilsdale Cottage now has its own private enclosed garden with 1.5m fencing and lockable gate. Overlooking the bridleway and farmland beyond. Guests are still welcome to use the (shared) courtyard garden and dog paddock.

Dog-friendly cottage
Up to three well-behaved dogs are welcome in Bilsdale cottage (not in bedrooms please) at no extra charge. The new enclosed garden has been designed with dogs in mind – our own spaniels supervised its development – with 1.5m euro fencing and a lockable gate.
We also have facilities to keep your furry friend(s) happy. An outdoor dog shower is available to wash those muddy paws after exploring the North Yorkshire countryside or a trip to the beaches of the East coast, towels and shampoo are provided. Dogs also have access to our enclosed dog exercise paddock.
We request that all dogs remain downstairs to enable us to keep the cottages as hygienic as possible.
