A dog-friendly cottage with private garden
Bilsdale Cottage is popular with families, couples and solo travelers wanting to relax in the Yorkshire countryside. It is particularly of interest to dog owners and walkers who want to take advantage of our picturesque rural location close to the North York Moors National Park and within the Howardian Hills National Landscape. Guests are welcome to use the picnic benches, large lawn and dog exercise paddocks (fenced and gated).
When you’ve had enough of exploring the nearby walks, cycling trails and local sights, the quaint market town of Helmsley is only a five-minute drive away (or a country ramble alongside the River Rye). Here you’ll find plenty of unique pubs, restaurants and cafes, plus a varied selection of independent shops. Helmsley has a castle, walled garden and the National Centre for Birds of Prey. In summer months, the heated outdoor swimming pool is always popular as is a walk along the Cleveland Way to Rievaulx Abbey.
New in Spring 2025 – Bilsdale Cottage now has its own private enclosed garden with 1.2m fencing and lockable gate. The garden faces out towards lawned grounds, hedge and the bridleway beyond. Guests are still welcome to use the (shared) courtyard garden and dog paddocks.
Dog-friendly cottage
3 well-behaved dogs are welcome in Bilsdale cottage at no extra charge. The new enclosed garden has been designed with dogs in mind – our own spaniels supervised its development – with 1.2m V mesh fencing and a lockable gate.
We also have facilities to keep your furry friend(s) happy. Dogs also have access to our two enclosed dog exercise paddocks which are gated and fenced. An outdoor dog shower is available to wash those muddy paws after exploring the North Yorkshire countryside or following a trip to the beaches of the Yorkshire coast; towels and shampoo are provided.
We request that all dogs remain out of bedrooms and are kept on leads outdoores when not in the paddocks or Bilsdale’s garden.
